BAM! Immerse yourself in the world of wrestling theatre. High culture and subculture meet on equal terms in the ring.

This lab is aimed at people from all disciplines who are keen to work together to develop a modern, experimental wrestling spectacle.

Wrestling is a spectacle combining acting, acrobatics, circus, and sports. Bodies clad in fantastic costumes collide in staged contests. The participants – originally male, stereotypically muscular, and testosterone-fueled, today increasingly diverse and intercultural – are present in the here and now. There is a collective agreement between the protagonists and the audience, who experience the moment as unique and real. The live situation and the active, emotional engagement of the audience are important. Cheers and boos are welcome!

We want to harness the potential of the Smithy to create a special wrestling evening – with room for trash, gore, slapstick, and major political and social themes. High culture and subculture meet on equal terms. Creatives from all disciplines – from dance, theater, and acrobatics to video, audio, media art, and robotics – are invited to create a multimedia work of art. Athletic Smiths will learn the art of physical storytelling, while others will contribute to the production with videos, graphics, sound, costumes, lighting design, and moderation. Here, the motto is: More is more!

Selina Nowak aka Zelina Power
is a wrestler, performer, and fight choreographer based in Vienna.
She fights in wrestling, films, and on stages in Europe, England, and Mexico.
In her other life, she is a stage and costume designer.

BAM! Tauch ein in die Welt des Wrestlingtheaters. Hochkultur und Subkultur treffen einander auf Augenhöhe im Ring. 

Das Lab richtet sich an Menschen aus allen Disziplinen, die Bock darauf haben, gemeinsam ein modernes, experimentelles Wrestlingspektakel zu entwickeln.

Wrestling ist ein Spektakel aus Schauspiel, Akrobatik, Zirkus und Sport.
In fantastische Kostüme gekleidete Körper treffen in inszenierten Wettkämpfen aufeinander.  Die Beteiligten – ursprünglich männlich, stereotyp muskulös und testosterongeladen, heute zunehmend divers und interkulturell – sind im Hier und Jetzt präsent.  Es gibt eine kollektive Übereinkunft zwischen Protagonist*innen und Publikum, die den Moment als einzigartig und real erleben.  Wichtig sind die Live-Situation und das aktive, emotionale Engagement des Publikums. Jubel und Booohs erwünscht!

Wir wollen das Potenzial der Schmiede nutzen, um einen besonderen Wrestlingabend zu gestalten – mit Platz für Trash, Gore, Slapstick sowie große politische und soziale Themen. Hochkultur und Subkultur treffen einander auf Augenhöhe. Kreative aller Disziplinen – von Tanz, Theater und Akrobatik bis hin zu Video, Audio, Medienkunst und Robotik – sind eingeladen, ein multimediales Gesamtkunstwerk zu erschaffen. Sportlich aktive Smiths erlernen die Kunst des physical Storytellings, während andere mit Videos, Grafik, Sound, Kostümen, Lichtdesign und Moderation zur Inszenierung beitragen. Hier gilt: More is more!
