Networked Effects I:  What gives? 

ferallab returns to Schmiede23 to initiate something new and sustainable. We will be seeking to uncover concepts of sustainability in the art, science and technology context. We will attempt to go beyond purely environmental or economic feasibility and dive deeper into the question: What are the implications of our actions? How can we connect cause and consequence without losing hope. Our focus is to sustain joy and hence our willingness and ability for action. 

This first of three ferallab iterations will push for spontaneous collaborative processes and initiate a fact finding mission. We will harvest ideas, information and solutions in order to bring them together and produce a perspective. The world and our digital and analogue networks produce what we perceive as life. How come that we do not take what is given with gratitude and responsibility. How can we escape this rat race of a prisoner’s dilemma and sustain our humanity and context. 

The colloquial phrase “What gives” has a few meanings: What is happening? What is wrong? Why is this happening? What will happen? What will give way first? What/who is likely the first to let go / break.

Rewilding Cultures (RC) is a Creative Europe collaboration project, which wants to reposition the wild within the field of art practices connecting to science and technology. As the European cultural sector has been and still is affected by multiple subsequent and coincident crises (incl. COVID-19, war-induced inflation, migration) we need to rewild on terms fit for the present and future.

Rewilding Cultures is co-funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union, which aims to support European projects in the field of cultural production and innovation. The partner associations include ART2M / Makery (FR), Bioart Society (FI), Catch (Helsingør Kommune) Center for Art, Technology and Design (DK), Cultivamos Cultura (PT), Ionian University (GR), Radiona (HR) Schmiede Hallein (AT) and Projekt Atol (SI) which leads the project. Vernetzte Effekte I: Was gibt?

ferallab kehrt zur Schmiede23 zurück, um etwas Neues und Nachhaltiges zu initiieren. Im ersten Schritt werden wir Konzepte der Nachhaltigkeit im Kontext von Kunst, Wissenschaft und Technologie sammeln und aufbereiten. Wir werden über die rein ökologische oder wirtschaftliche Machbarkeit hinausgehen und tiefer in die Frage eintauchen: Welche Auswirkungen hat unser Handeln? Wie können wir Ursache und Wirkung verbinden, ohne die Hoffnung zu verlieren? Unser Fokus liegt auf der Aufrechterhaltung der Leichtigkeit und damit unserer Handlungsbereitschaft und -fähigkeit.

Diese erste von drei Ferallab-Iterationen wird auf spontane kollaborative Prozesse bauen und eine Faktenermittlungsmission initiieren. Wir werden Ideen, Informationen und Lösungen sammeln, um sie zusammenzuführen und eine Perspektive zu entwickeln. Die Welt und unsere digitalen und analogen Netzwerke produzieren das, was wir als Leben wahrnehmen. Wie kommt es, dass wir das Gegebene nicht mit Dankbarkeit und Verantwortung annehmen? Wie können wir diesem hektischen Abwärts Rennen und Gefangenendilemma entkommen und unsere Menschlichkeit und unseren Kontext bewahren?

Der umgangssprachliche Ausdruck What gives etwa „Was gibt“ hat mehrere Bedeutungen: Was passiert? Was ist falsch? Warum passiert das? Was wird passieren? Was wird zuerst nachgeben? Was/wer wird wahrscheinlich als erster loslassen/brechen?

Rewilding Cultures (RC) ist ein Kooperationsprojekt von Creative Europe, das die Wildnis im Bereich der Kunstpraktiken in Verbindung mit Wissenschaft und Technologie neu positionieren möchte. Da der europäische Kultursektor von mehreren aufeinanderfolgenden und gleichzeitigen Krisen (einschließlich COVID-19, kriegsbedingter Inflation, Migration) betroffen war und immer noch ist, müssen wir zu Bedingungen umgestalten, die für die Gegenwart und Zukunft geeignet sind.

Rewilding Cultures wird durch das Programm „Kreatives Europa“ der Europäischen Union kofinanziert, dessen Ziel es ist, europäische Projekte im Bereich der kulturellen Produktion und Innovation zu unterstützen.
