Escape Fake Wins the European Digital Skills Award in the Education Category.

The award-winning app from Salzburg-based studio Polycular uses augmented reality to strengthen young people’s digital skills.

The European Commission has named Escape Fake the winner of the 2025 European Digital Skills Award in the Education category. More than 250 entries from across Europe were submitted. The award ceremony took place on November 12th during the EU Skills Days in Brussels.

Escape Fake is a free-to-play, augmented reality game, which takes the players through a digital escape room in order to fix the future by debunking fake news. Escape Fake combines augmented reality storytelling, interactive game-based learning, and an educational toolkit that teaches learners key digital skills. Developed by the technology studio Polycular GmbH in Hallein, the app has grown through international partnerships and is now available in seven languages ​​(German, English, French, Dutch, Portuguese, Romanian, and Italian). The game has already been downloaded more than 130,000 times and is inspiring a steadily growing community of teachers who are integrating AR experiences into media literacy education.
